Samantha And The Butterfly

About This Story

This story is about Understanding Different Perspectives

  • Sometimes two people can have completely different ideas about the same activity.

  • In this story, Samantha chases after a butterfly, thinking they are both having fun.

Samantha And The Butterfly

A little squirrel named Samantha loves to play high up in the trees, jumping from branch to branch.

One day, Samantha sees a beautiful butterfly. She wants to play with it, so she climbs down the tree, slowly. As Samantha climbs down, she sees the butterfly waiting for her on a flower.

When Samantha reaches the branch where the flower is, she runs to the butterfly. But the butterfly flutters down to another flower. Samantha follows, running and laughing, as the butterfly leads her on a merry chase.

After a while, the butterfly flits away, and Samantha sits down on a branch all alone. Samantha's tummy growls, and she knows it is time for dinner.

Samantha climbs down from the tree to find food. She digs down into the soft earth and finds a big, tasty acorn. She wishes she had someone to share her meal.

After eating, Samantha feels tired. She snuggles down into a bed of leaves and closes her eyes. Samantha falls asleep, dreaming about butterflies and acorns.

The End.

  • In our story, the butterfly had no way of telling Samantha that she was popping her comfort bubble. Luckily, we have ways to communicate with others. What could you say if someone was invading your comfort zone?

  • Samantha really wanted a playmate. Do you think she would have behaved differently if she understood how the butterfly felt?
