Andrea’s Lesson

Andrea, a spirited and talented softball player, faced the toughest inning of her season, but not on the field. The final game was approaching, a game she had eagerly awaited. However, her excitement turned to sadness when her parents informed her she wouldn't be playing. The reason? Andrea hadn't been truthful about completing her schoolwork, a discovery made by her teacher, who was also her softball coach.

Feeling overwhelmed by assignments and the pressure to be great at softball, Andrea put off her homework. Her decision spiraled out of control until her coach called home, expressing concern. The coach suggested that missing the final game could teach Andrea a valuable lesson about responsibility, even though they truly needed her on the team. Her parents, though heartbroken, agreed.

Anger bubbled within Andrea. She felt betrayed by her coach and misunderstood by her parents. She couldn’t believe her parents were going to allow the coach to let down the whole team by keeping her out of the game. In a moment of defiance, she declared her intention to quit softball altogether if she couldn’t play in the final game of the season.

Her parents, calm yet firm, allowed her to make her own choice, but reminded her that actions have consequences. "Quitting softball is your decision, just like it was your decision to not do your homework," they explained. "But remember, every choice shapes the path ahead."

The weekend passed, and so did the game without her. Andrea wrestled with her decision. Her anger now turned to guilt, then gradually to hope, as she knew what she needed to do.

On Monday morning, a teary Andrea approached her parents, not to discuss softball, but to ask for help with her schoolwork.

Andrea kept her softball interests by playing on the weekends with her friends. Because she had a choice, she decided to get the help she needed to stay on top of her schoolwork. She was determined never to feel the stress of getting so far behind with homework again.

The End.
