Seven Places in Huntersville, NC for Kids to be Social
It seems like "good old" public or private school would be the only place that kids need to meet other kids, but oh how that is not the case. With so much academic and social pressure in our private and public schools today, it's more than a challenge for kids to create meaningful friendships in the random chaos that is the school playground or campus, especially for the sensory-sensitive child.
Enter, the fun kids club. These often highly focused and less competitive small group get-togethers can be a great way to introduce your child to a safe and controlled social setting with the added value of meeting your child's interests, while not overwhelming them.
Following is a list of seven places that are sponsoring children's small group activities in Huntersville, NC area. I intentionally left out the typical sporting clubs due to the competitive nature of these activities, which can often add more stress to an already stressed child.
Boy Scouts / Girl Scouts / Troop 200 & 220: Yes, the scouts are still a thing. The mission of the scouts is to instill a value system in our youth and have fun while doing it. As you might expect, the scouts offer the same fun things as when we were kids, with many of the activities being outdoor-based. There's a great deal to scouting, so for details of what the Huntersville Troop 200 and Troop 220 are up to, here are the links to check them out. TROOP-200, TROOP-220. Here's a link to the Girl Scouts Troop Search page that allows you to find an age-appropriate group meeting close to your home. Here's a link to the Boy Scouts Troop Search page.

Not all events are labeled as social, but most will have loads of other children participating.

Children's Museum: It just so happens that Huntersville, NC has one of the best museums around built just for kids, called Discovery Place. Although it's not free, they do have a great number of group activities with just the right amount of social to not be overwhelming. From Art classes to fun mini Summer Camps, they're worth checking out.
Performing Arts / Dance / Acting / Music: If your child has an artistic flair, why not develop it with other children who are also looking to express themselves within the arts? Right here in Huntersville, NC, we have a unique school called LKN Perform which offers all of the above, Dance, Acting, and Music classes for children. If your interest is social-focused, check with them to make sure the class you sign up for is not a solo visit.
DIY Kids: Did you know that Lowes and Home Depot have regular monthly kid's workshops? These workshops are geared just for the little ones to get the skills. Here's the link for Lowes Workshops. Here's the link for Home Depot's. In our eyes, it's fun and social.
Organized Gym for Kids: When you think of kids getting fit, you may think of parks and recreation centers or local sports, but there's another place that is less competitive and a bit more personal. Little Gym is a fitness place for kids and advertises classes for children of all ages.
At Playright, we are currently putting together small social groups where kids can engage in activities such as playing games, crafting, learning to crochet or knit, drawing, painting, creative storytelling, and acting. Give us a call to include your child in one of our future groups.
