Fidget Says Goodbye
Fidget the Squirrel loved playing chase with his best friend, Twig. When he saw Twig slowly crawling rather than jumping toward him, he thought something seemed wrong.
Twig told Fidget, “My family is moving to a new forest tomorrow.”
Upon hearing this, Fidget’s heart sunk in his chest. "I'll miss you," he said, tightly hugging Twig. “But, I will always be your friend, no matter where you live.”
Twig felt better when he heard Fidget’s kind words. “Thanks Fidget, I am nervous about moving somewhere new and not knowing anyone. It makes me feel better, knowing you will always be my friend.”
“Of course! You didn’t think you could lose my friendship just because you are farther away? I will chase you in your new forest when I visit!”
Fidget and Twig shared one last game of chase, running and laughing around the old oak tree, storing up happy moments, like acorns for winter. When the afternoon was about to turn into evening, Twig turned to Fidget. "Promise to visit?" Twig asked, trying not to cry.
"I promise," Fidget nodded, his eyes shining with tears. “And, you can come have sleepovers here with me whenever your parents give you permission!”
Waving goodbye, Fidget felt a little heartache. He knew that true friends stay close, even when they are far apart. Like his mom and her best friend Betty Bushtail, who lived in the mountains.
Fidget watched Twig leap away into the distance. Feeling brave, he whispered, "See you soon, my friend."
In the days that followed, Fidget fondly remembered all the fun times he shared with Twig, and he looked forward to their next adventure together.
